The Digital Politics Tracker: September 2026
WELCOME TO THE DIGITAL POLITICS TRACKER.
For the last couple of months, I have been putting together a database of regulatory enforcement actions, legislative proposals and other primary source documents to help me track what's going on in digital policy worldwide.
Currently, it includes over 300 separate entries from across more than 40 jurisdictions (from the European Union and Brazil to international bodies and the United States.) I've found it pretty useful.
In the coming weeks, I'll make that database available to subscribers (I'm still working out the kinks.)
But I also get people are busy. So I'm publishing a monthly tracker of what has been recently published, from which jurisdiction, and why it matters. I'll also include a brief synopsis of trends across countries to help you (and me!) put together the bigger picture.

SEPTEMBER HIGHLIGHTED A NEW PHASE of digital governance. Regulators moved from principles to implementation, while platforms were required to make their own systems more legible. This month’s entries span AI research ethics, data protection, competition, platform safety and the increasingly fraught transatlantic politics of the European Union's Digital Services Act.
The most consequential corporate development was another reporting cycle under the EU's Code of Conduct on Disinformation. The announcement is not itself proof of compliance. But it does create a more usable public record. It's the beginning of an evidence base against which civil society, researchers and regulators can test claims about election integrity, information quality and platform measures.
